Pregnancy / birth

The pregnancy of the cat begins with the mating. Because the mating hurts the queen the stud has to flee otherwise he gets beated. After the mating the queen rolls herself on the floor. The queen forgets the pain very fast and wants to be mated again.

From the third week on the teats colour themselve red. As you can see on the image on the right side the tummy gets a little bigger. This was during the fourth week of her pregnancy. There can be a difference between some cats. There can also be differences between the different cat races. Of course are the number of kitten also responsible for the size of the tummy.

These images were shot during the seventh week of the pregnancy. Now you can see the tummy clearly. Sometimes you can also see the movements of the kitten through the abdominal wall.

These images show Cassiopeia at the beginning of the eighth week of the pregnancy.

Just a week is left and then the kitten will get born.

This is the xray of Cassiopeia. It looks like that there will be three kitten.

[A small video (1950 KB) of the movements of the unborn babies.]

The cat needs a suitable place for the birth of her kitten. We have decided us for a litterbox. People which like to work with wood can make this box by themself. The box should be finished in good time. We have done this two weeks before the date of birth.

Birth

The last baby. This one arrives with the tail first. Dania helps the kitten to find the teats.

The sexes: On the left photo you can see a girl and on the right a boy. The gender from the girl looks like a exclamation point (!) the one from the boy like a colon (:).

After the birth mum and kittens are satisfied and calm. The kittens drinking the first colostrum.
On the right photo you can see the first meconium.
